The following questions are taken from a questionnaire issued recently by a Health Authority to all medical practices in its area. The practice must comply with current Health & Safety legislation. Are we achieving this?........Yes/No Minimum Standard A) The practice must have a written health and safety policy which complies with current legislation. This policy must include the following: 1) Written statement of employer's commitment to health and safety, signed by Head of Practice and dated. Are we achieving this?........Yes/No 2) Organisational arrangements for implementing policy, identifying reporting arrangements and indicating where day-to-day and overall operational responsibility rests for each aspect of policy. Are we achieving this?........Yes/No 3) Collection of procedures for dealing with particular hazards in the workplace (e.g. control of drugs, medicines, syringes, etc.) Are we achieving this?........Yes/No B) This policy must be reviewed quarterly. Are we achieving this?........Yes/No C) The practice written statement of Health and Safety signed by the Head of practice must include the following: 1) Provision and maintenance of equipment that is safe and without risks to health. Are we achieving this?........Yes/No 2) Arrangements for ensuring the safe use, handling, storage and transport of 'articles and substances' which are inherently or potentially dangerous.
